6-Day Gorilla Trekking & Chimpanzee Safari Uganda

Your journey begins with a scenic drive west from Entebbe, leaving the shores of Lake Victoria for the lush, rolling tea plantations of Fort Portal. After settling into your lodge on the edge of the jungle, you will explore the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary.

This community-led boardwalk trek is a primate lover’s paradise; you will navigate the tropical wetlands in search of the Great Blue Turaco and up to eight different primate species, including the Red Colobus and Grey-cheeked Mangabey, all while supporting local conservation and community development.

Wake up to the sounds of the rainforest for a morning of Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale National Park, home to the highest density of primates in Africa. Under the guidance of expert rangers, you will track a habituated troop and spend a thrilling hour observing their social interactions and vocal play in the canopy.

Afterward, you will descend into the Great Rift Valley, crossing the equator as you enter Queen Elizabeth National Park. The evening is spent relaxing at your lodge, often accompanied by the distant sounds of hippos from the nearby Kazinga Channel.

Begin the day with an early morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park, exploring the wildlife-rich Kasenyi Plains where lions, elephants, Cape buffalo and Uganda kob are frequently seen against the distant backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains.

In the afternoon, enjoy a scenic boat safari along the Kazinga Channel, one of Africa’s most wildlife-dense waterways. The cruise offers exceptional sightings of hippos, elephants and crocodiles gathering along the shoreline, as well as numerous bird species.

After breakfast, depart Queen Elizabeth National Park and travel south toward the ancient rainforest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The journey passes through the remote Ishasha sector, famous for its tree-climbing lions, offering a final chance for wildlife sightings before leaving the savannah behind.

As the landscape rises into the lush hills of southwestern Uganda, the scenery transforms into terraced farms and mist-covered forest ridges. By afternoon, you arrive at your lodge on the edge of Bwindi Forest, where you will relax and prepare for the next day’s unforgettable gorilla trekking experience.

This is the heart of your adventure. After a morning briefing, you will enter the ancient rainforest to track one of the world’s last remaining mountain gorilla families.

The trek can be physically demanding, leading you through thick undergrowth and over steep ridges, but the reward is life-changing: one hour of quiet observation as these gentle giants feed, groom, and play just meters away.

Following the trek, you will transfer to the serene Lake Bunyonyi, where the calm, island-dotted waters provide the ultimate setting for post-trek recovery and reflection.
